Product description

Agrocrete® is GreenJams’ patented carbon‑negative bio‑concrete block, engineered from crop residues like paddy straw, bagasse, and cotton stalks, bound with BINDR™, a proprietary zero‑clinker mineral binder derived from industrial slag. This patented formulation enables each block to sequester biogenic carbon captured by plants, resulting in a cradle‑to‑gate carbon footprint of –0.14 kg CO₂e per kg.

Agrocrete® blocks are load‑bearing, thermally insulating, and 30 % lighter than conventional masonry units, enabling up to 50 % reduction in construction costs and significant ease of handling for masons. They provide approximately three to 3.5 times better thermal insulation, contributing to lower indoor energy consumption. Production involves a low‑energy, low‑resource process: mixing biomass, binder, and water, casting in molds, then natural curing. Water used is nutrient‑rich and can be reused in agriculture. The blocks are stronger and more robust than traditional red clay bricks, with improved finishing and water resistance. Adopted in pilot structures, an Agrocrete® building captured 3.1 tonnes of CO₂ at one site while reducing build time from ~12 to ~4 days. The modular franchise model enables decentralized manufacturing, supports rural employment, and minimizes transport emissions. Agrocrete® is transforming construction by delivering sustainable, locally made, carbon‑negative building materials.

About the Company

GreenJams is an India-based cleantech social enterprise founded in 2017 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The company addresses both agricultural pollution and construction emissions by converting crop residues into carbon‑negative building materials. Its flagship innovation, Agrocrete®, is a patented bio‑concrete made of biomass (such as rice straw, bagasse, cotton stalks) and BINDR™, a low‑carbon, zero‑clinker mineral binder produced from industrial by‑products. Agrocrete® offers load‑bearing strength comparable to conventional concrete, superior thermal insulation, and 30–50 % lighter blocks with up to 50 % lower construction costs. In 2022, GreenJams became the first construction materials startup to publish a third‑party verified Environmental Product Declaration proving that Agrocrete® is truly carbon negative (–0.14 kg CO₂e/kg). GreenJams operates under a franchise manufacturing model, empowering local producers and reducing transportation emissions. It has received recognition through Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30, winners of the Circulars Accelerator 2023, and support from Habitat for Humanity, Villgro, India’s Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Ministry of Science & Technology, and Agence Française de Développement. GreenJams aims to revolutionize the built environment by scaling a sustainable, circular economy solution that heals both the climate and rural livelihoods.
